Full-time, Direct Hire opportunity in Hatboro, PA supported by Tree Top's Engineering & Manufacturing practice.

Position Overview

Tree Top Staffing is recruiting an experienced Senior OD/ID Grinding Technician for a precision manufacturing organization in Hatboro, Pennsylvania.

This opportunity is ideal for a highly skilled grinding professional who takes pride in producing complex, high-value components to exceptionally tight tolerances. The work primarily consists of specialized, short-run grinding and fine-finishing projects rather than repetitive production or heavy stock removal.

Assignments may range from several hours to several days and frequently involve customer-supplied parts or materials. Quality, careful handling, process control, and scrap prevention are critical to success.

The ideal candidate will bring strong OD and ID grinding experience, machine-level CNC programming capabilities, manual grinding expertise, and the technical judgment needed to consistently produce precise, high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate OD and ID grinding equipment
  • Perform grinding between centers, chucking OD grinding, chucking ID grinding, and non-round grinding when required
  • Produce components to extremely tight tolerances, commonly including .0002 inches on diameter and 50 millionths on roundness and other geometric requirements
  • Complete CNC and conversational programming directly at the machine
  • Operate manual grinding equipment and make adjustments based on machine feel, part condition, and inspection results
  • Review job requirements, drawings, specifications, priorities, and expected completion times
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance on parts requiring advanced inspection or additional process control
  • Handle customer-supplied parts and materials with exceptional care while minimizing scrap and protecting product integrity
  • Troubleshoot grinding challenges and make appropriate machine, tooling, and process adjustments
  • Maintain accurate job tracking and time records
  • Participate in risk analysis and FMEA activities when required
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, repeatability, cycle time, and overall process efficiency
  • Cross-train in other manufacturing areas to develop a broader understanding of company processes
  • Grinding Equipment

The grinding department utilizes equipment that includes:

  • Kellenberger Kel-Vista CNC grinders
  • Kellenberger Kel-Vita CNC grinders with non-round grinding capability
  • Kellenberger Universal manual grinders
  • Jones & Shipman CNC grinders with conversational programming
  • Experience with Kellenberger, Jones & Shipman, or comparable precision OD/ID grinding equipment is highly desirable.

    Qualifications

  • Five or more years of OD/ID grinding experience preferred
  • Strong experience setting up and operating precision grinding equipment
  • CNC or conversational programming experience directly at the machine
  • Manual grinding experience and a strong understanding of machine setup, process behavior, and machine feel
  • Experience performing tight-tolerance grinding and fine-finishing work
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, specifications, and geometric tolerance requirements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, accuracy, careful part handling, and scrap prevention
  • Ability to work effectively with grinding technicians, production leadership, engineering, and Quality Assurance
  • Technical school, machining program, apprenticeship, or pre-apprenticeship training is a plus
  • Candidates with advanced technical expertise and the ability to serve as a resource to other grinding technicians will receive strongest consideration for the top of the compensation range.

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand at a machine for extended periods, including shifts of up to 10 hours when required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk throughout the manufacturing floor
  • Ability to complete computer and workstation responsibilities as required
  • Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Specialized precision grinding work rather than repetitive high-volume production
  • Exposure to complex parts, challenging tolerances, and advanced grinding processes
  • Opportunity to work with both CNC and manual grinding equipment
  • First-shift schedule
  • Direct-hire opportunity with compensation up to $37 per hour for a highly experienced technical grinder
